Stained Glass Window Devotions
Created and Designed by David Crane of Plumstead Studios.
Donated by Russel and Mary Trumbauer in loving memory of their daughter, Beverly A. Trumbauer, on November 7, 2004.
Artist's Statement: The overall design scheme for these windows unifies both sashes into one coherent statement by creating a
structure for dialogue between two circular "message" medallions, one in the top sash and one in the bottom sash. I have selected circles for these medallions because circles are an expression of (everlasting life), unity and wholeness. The ruby reds speak of the passion that must be brought to a journey of faith and the blues refer to heaven. I have selected elements of the existing stained glass cross above the altar to construct this framework. The straight and circular red bands in my design are structural in that they mimic the shape of the altar cross, flowing out from a central circle in the top sash and drawing top and bottom sashes together. They are also, however, symbolic in that path of the red bands are reminiscent of skeins of macrame, or of Celtic knots or even of a labyrinth wherein they are symbolic of the thread of life, the interconnectedness of all life, and life as a journey of the soul. This overall matrix will be the same in all seven windows. What will be different in each window is the content of the medallions.
